He is joined by friends and long-time collaborators, Andrew Robb on bass and Marton Juhasz on percussion. With Robb taking the 2009 title of ‘BBC Scottish Young Jazz Musician of the Year’ and Juhasz being declared ‘Drummer of the Year’ twice in the JazzMa reader’s poll, the trio’s creative capability is unquestionable.
2015 saw the release of the band’s debut album, ‘Traveller’s Tales’, an artistic venture which reaped glowing reviews from critics. Since then they have been delighting audiences throughout the UK and Europe, including appearances at the London International Jazz Festival and the United Europe Jazz Festival.
Their material is rooted in European and American Jazz, but is influenced by impressionist piano music and film music. Benzie has the ability to infuse poetic sensitivity with captivating storylines and virtuosic outbursts of vitality. This, combined with admirable technical skills and musicianship, manifests itself in the form of the Alan Benzie Trio; a force to be reckoned with.
